Highlights of current and recent work.
AI governance, resilience and critical national infrastructure
Research and convening on whether existing governance, security and resilience arrangements remain fit for increasingly autonomous AI systems operating across critical infrastructure. Areas of focus include accountability, incident response, oversight, strategic dependency and sovereignty.
UK–Netherlands AI ecosystems
Research commissioned by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office examining opportunities for deeper UK–Dutch collaboration on AI across sectors of shared strength, including life sciences and agrifood, and around adoption, infrastructure, skills and responsible innovation.
Hope Pathway Capability Index (HPCI)
The HPCI is an evaluation index for assessing how AI systems construct and sustain hope under uncertainty. It examines whether systems preserve meaningful human or collective agency, generate plausible and adaptable pathways for action, and orient those pathways towards substantively desirable and plural forms of flourishing.
The Hope Game
A participatory futures exercise for exploring alternative AI futures through goals, agency, pathways and adaptation. The game helps groups identify desired forms of flourishing, surface barriers and trade-offs, and develop practical pathways for action.
Scientific AI safety and governance
Work on safety, evaluation and responsible deployment as AI capabilities scale within research and innovation systems, including high-impact domains such as biosecurity and public health.
Agentic and multi-agent AI
Developing a research agenda around AI systems that can act autonomously, coordinate with other agents and participate in operational decision-making. Current questions include observability, escalation, misinformation resilience, human oversight and recovery.
National AI governance and readiness
Work with governments and stakeholders on AI readiness assessment, institutional capacity and policy pathways, including engagements across Argentina, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Tanzania and Türkiye.
Data justice and responsible AI
Research on global data justice and the responsible use of synthetic data for online safety research, alongside public-policy work on the social and institutional dimensions of AI.
How I work
My research integrates technical, institutional and policy analysis to examine complex AI and technology governance challenges across multiple levels.
